I Can’t Get My Child to do Homework TutorGiant.com Homework is often the biggest battle in most homes nowadays. It is common to find insistent parents trying to encourage and convince their reluctant children to do their homework. Regardless of whether or not you believe in the merits of homework, your child is still assessed on his/her completed work the next day. Children need consistency and routine. Habits are easier to maintain than random ‘work’. When you create a schedule for your child, and consistently maintain it, your child will begin to accept the routine and treat it as a habit. There are several strategies you can use in order to get your child to do his/her homework without that constant battle. Remember though, every child is different. Try to incorporate the following steps that best suit your child. · Reward your child for taking initiative to do homework without being asked (rewards can be tangible or a simple ‘I’m proud of you’). · Set some homework rules (e.g. must be done in room, no television or video games until homework is done…) · Write a homework contract with your child (e.g. 2 weeks of completed homework and he/she will receive a meaningful reward). · Make sure that your child has the resources available in order to complete homework tasks properly. Students are often reluctant to complete homework because they don’t understand it. Sometimes the relevant resources can be great confidence boosters.
Try to follow these steps and you will see that your child will begin to treat homework like a habit and not a chore. ©Tutorgiant.com |
