Probability – Grade 1 Math - Probability

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 1 probability, your child will learn about events of chance such as the tossing of a coin, the rolling of a number cube, or the spin of a spinner.

     Your child will learn:

·         probability related vocabulary

·         to connect probability with his or her daily life

·         that an event may or may not occur

·         how to use tally marks

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 1 probability such as:

·         always

·         never

·         likely

·         predict

·         sometimes

·         unlikely

How you can help your child at home:

1.    Point out to your child when you use probability language such as ‘I never’, or ‘I sometimes’.

Your child will have a better understanding of probability when he or she experiences the concept at home.
