Addition and Subtraction – Grade 2 Math, Help Adding and Subtracting By Stuart Ackerman In grade 2 math, your child will learn how to add and subtract 2-digit numbers. Your child will use manipulatives and place value charts to help with addition and subtraction. Your child will learn: · that adding means the ‘total’ · that subtracting means ‘what is missing’ · to add 2-digit numbers · to subtract 2-digit numbers · solve simple problems involving addition and subtraction Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 2 measurements of time and money such as: · difference · regrouping · sum · total · addition, subtraction How you can help your child at home: 1. Show your child how to add to a number in several different ways by using concrete objects. For example, use checkers pieces to show that 5 + 2 = 7, 4 + 3 = 7, and 6 + 1 = 7.
