Data Management – Grade 2 Math, Help My Child With Data And Graphs

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 2 math, your child will learn to collect, organize, and interpret data and graphs.  Your child will also learn how to sort information (i.e. data) and describe it when in a graph.

     Your child will learn:

·         to organize data using charts and graphs

·         to create different types of graphs (e.g. pictograph, bar graph)

·         to interpret a graph

·         to read a graph

·         present data in a graph

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 2 data management such as:

·         data

·         bar graph

·         pictograph

·         label

How you can help your child at home:

1.    Help your child think of different ways to sort objects.  For example, your child can sort animal toys according to land or marine animals, or fur or no fur, etc…

The more practice your child has with grade 2 data management at home, the better his or her survey and graphing skills will become.
