Data Management – Grade 4 Data Management, Different Types of Graphs

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 4 math, your child will be introduced to different types of graphs.

     Your child will learn:

  •     to collect, record, and interpret data
  •     to construct graphs    to read different graphs (e.g. pictograph, pie graph, bar graph,)
  •   to display data on a graph
  •   that data is organized into intervals
  •   about the range of data

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 4 data management such as:

·        scale

·         interval

·         data

·         range

·         pictograph

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Have your child practice collecting and displaying data by recording the time spent on playing video games, watching television, reading, or playing a sport for a week.  Have your child display the data in different types of charts (e.g. pictograph, bar graph).

The more practice your child has with grade 4 data management at home, the better his or her data skills will become.
