Measurement – Grade 4 Math, Measuring Length and Time

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 4 math, your child will be introduced to the skills of measuring with different units, measuring shapes, and measuring time.

     Your child will learn:

·         to measure using different units

·         the formula for measuring perimeter

·         the concepts of a decade, century, and millennium

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 4 measurement such as:

·          area

·         decade, century, millennium

·         perimeter

·         inches, feet, and/or millimetre and decimetre

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Open up a history book and show your child an historical timeline.  Point out the difference between decades, centuries, and millennia.

The more practice your child has with grade 4 measurement at home, the better his or her measurement skills will become.
