Numbers – Grade 4 Math, Comparing Numbers, Estimating, Rounding, and Multiplying Numbers

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 4 math, your child will learn how to read and write large numbers, multiply by base tens, estimate, and compare numbers.

     Your child will learn:

·         to read, represent, and write large numbers (place value)

·         represent numbers using words

·         to multiply by base 10 (i.e. 10, 100, 1000 etc…)

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 4 numeration such as:

·         expanded form, standard form

·         rounding

·         whole numbers

·         place value

How you can help your child at home:

  1. When your child learns social studies, point out distances in geography, population data, and other measurements.  Have your child compare these large numbers.

The more practice your child has with grade 4 numbers at home, the better his or her number skills will become.
