2D Geometry – Grade 3 Math Help with 2D Geometry

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 3 math, your child will be introduced to 2 dimensional shapes and geometric patterns.

     Your child will learn:

·      about congruent shapes

  •  to sort two dimensional shapes
  •  to identify 2D shapes
  •  use geometric vocabulary to describe the characteristics of 2-D shapes

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 3 geometry such as:

·       polygon

·         equilateral, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, square, rectangle, triangle, circle

  •    classify
  •    congruence

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Have your child go on a scavenger hunt around the house looking for different two dimensional shapes.

The more practice your child has with grade 3 2D geometry at home, the better his or her geometry skills will become.
