Addition and Subtraction – Grade 3 Help with Addition and Subtraction Problems

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 3 math, your child will be introduced to adding and subtracting with more digits, estimation, and problem solving.

     Your child will learn:

·         to add and subtract 2-digit numbers

·         to use estimation strategies when adding and subtracting

·         to find missing terms when adding and subtracting

·         to estimate sums and differences

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 3 addition and subtraction such as:

·         estimate

·         missing terms

·         addition, subtraction

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Simply give your child 2-digit addition and subtraction problems.  Have your child check to see if his or her answers are correct by using a calculator.

The more practice your child has with grade 3 addition and subtraction skills at home, the better his or her adding and subtracting skills will become.
