By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 3 math, your child will be introduced to measuring time and length.

     Your child will learn:

·      to measure in centimeters/centimeters, inches

  •  to measure in meters/metres, yards
  •  to measure in lengths of a kilometer/kilometer, mile

·         to measure perimeter

·         to measure time intervals

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 3 measurement of length and time such as:

·       perimeter

·         measurement, measuring

·         centimeter/centimeter, meter/metre, kilometer/kilometer, yard, inch, mile

·         days, weeks, month, year

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Have your child measure time intervals in days, weeks, and months.  For example, your child can count the number of days or weeks leading up to his or her birthday or a vacation.

The more practice your child has with grade 3 measurement at home, the better his or her time and length measurement skills will become.
