By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 3 math, your child will be introduced to rounding, estimating, and comparing numbers.

     Your child will learn:

·         to compare and order larger numbers

·         to estimate and round numbers

  •   how to rename and compare numbers
  •   round numbers to nearest 10 and 100
  •   about place value
  •   compare and order numbers to 1000

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 3 number sense such as:

·       comparing

·         rounding

·         estimating

Ways you can help your child at home:

  1. These skills are essential for everyday life.  Try to get your child to use these skills especially when using money.   You can have your child compare different sized bills, coins, and a combination of the two.

The more practice your child has with grade 3 number sense at home, the better his or her number sense skills will become.
