Fractions and Decimals – Grade 4 Fraction Help and Decimal Help

     In grade 4 math, your child will be introduced to proper fractions, mixed numbers, and the use of decimals in money.

     Your child will learn:

·         to compare fractions and relate them to decimals

·         to add and subtract decimal tenths and hundredths

·         about fractions of sets            

·         about decimal hundredths

     Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 4 fractions and decimals such as:

·         decimal

·         improper

·         mixed number

·         hundredth

·         tenth

How you can help your child at home:

1. Have your child read and follow a recipe.  Show your child different sized measuring cups.  This will give your child a tangible point of reference regarding fractions.

     The more practice your child has with grade 4 fractions and decimals at home, the better his or her fraction and decimal skills will become.
