Motion Geometry – Grade 4 Math, Patterns and Motion in Geometry

     In grade 4 math, your child will be introduced to transformations (move) shapes on a grid and identify geometric patterns. 

     Your child will learn:

·         to read a coordinate grid

·        all about transformations such as flips, slides, and turns (a.k.a. reflections,  

      transformations and rotations

•   to rotate shapes involving fractional turns
•    to extend and describe geometric patterns 

     Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 4 patterns and motion geometry such as:

·         coordinate grid

·         rotation, reflection, translation

·         transformation

How you can help your child at home:

1. Point out patterns in your home such as tile, brick, carpet, and wallpaper designs.

     The more practice your child has with grade 4 patterns and motion geometry at home, the better his or her fraction skills will become.
