2D Geometry – Grade 5 Math Help with 2D Geometry

     In grade 5 math, your child will be introduced to constructing, classifying, and measuring angles and shapes.

     Your child will learn:

·       to construct triangles

•  to classify triangles by their side lengths and angle measures
•  about the properties of polygons
•  to identify shapes
•  to measure angles in polygons
•  to sort polygons
•  about congruence and similarity

     Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 5 geometry such as:

·       polygon

·         angle

•   classify
•    triangle
•   congruence
•   similarity

How you can help your child at home:

1. When at home or in your community, have your child point out different angles, triangles, polygons, and irregular polygons.  Get your child to look for houses, buildings, and signs. 

     The more practice your child has with grade 5 2D geometry at home, the better his or her geometry skills will become.
