In grade 5 math, your child will be introduced to improper fractions and mixed numbers and multiplying and comparing fractions.
Your child will learn:
· to multiply, compare, and order fractions
- to relate fractions to decimals
- to identify equivalent fractions
- to express fractions as improper and mixed numbers
Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 5 fractions such as:
· mixed number
- improper fraction
- equivalent
- order
How you can help your child at home:
- If your child is studying music, you can show him or her that notes are divided into fractional parts (e.g. half note, quarter note).
The more practice your child has with grade 5 fractions at home, the better his or her fraction skills will become.
