Motion Geometry – Grade 5 Math Help with Motion Geometry

By Stuart Ackerman

In grade 5 math, your child will be introduced to transforming shapes on a grid.

     Your child will learn:

·      to transform (move) shapes on a grid

  •  to flip, slide, and turn (translation, rotation, reflection)

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 5 fractions such as:

·      rotation

  •  transformation
  •  grid
  •  translation
  •  reflection

How you can help your child at home:

  1. If your child learns dance or martial arts, show her or him how the moves in his or her routines follow movement patterns such as clockwise and counterclockwise.

The more practice your child has with grade 5 motion geometry at home, the better his or her motion geometry skills will become.
