Multiplying Decimals – Grade 5 Math Help with Multiplying Decimals

     In grade 5 math, your child will be introduced to multiplying decimals in various ways.

     Your child will learn:

·      to multiply decimal hundredths

•  to multiply decimal tenths
•  to estimate when multiplying decimals

     Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 5 multiplying decimals such as:

·      hundredths

•   tenths
•   estimating

How you can help your child at home:

1. When food shopping, have your child look at some of the food item prices.  Pick two items and have your child estimate the cost of the two items by rounding the prices (e.g. $4.92 + $3.01 can be rounded to $5.00 + $3.00 = $8.00).

     The more practice your child has with grade 5 multiplication of decimals at home, the better his or her multiplication of decimal skills will become.
