Probability – Grade 5 Math Help With Probability

By Stuart Ackerman  MSc.Ed.,B.A.

In grade 5 math, your child will be introduced to probability language and calculating probability.

     Your child will learn:

·         to how to predict probabilities

·         to express probabilities as fractions

·         to create tree diagrams and solve probability problems

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 5 probability such as:

·       impossible, unlikely, likely, probably, very probably, certain

·         tree diagram

·         predict

·         estimate

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Have your child practice probability language at home.  For example, your child might say that it is likely he is going to karate class on the weekend, or it is unlikely it will snow tomorrow.

The more practice your child has with grade 5 probability at home, the better his or her probability skills will become.
