Motion Geometry – Grade 6 Patterns in Motion Geometry

By Stuart Ackerman  MSc.Ed.,B.A.

In grade 6 math, your child will be introduced to transformations of shapes.

     Your child will learn:

·         to describe and perform rotations with shapes

·         to explore and identify transformation patterns

·         to explore rotational symmetry

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 6 motion geometry skills such as:

·         transformations

·         rotational symmetry

·         reflections, translations, rotations

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Use a computer program such as Microsoft Power Point to create shapes and transform them (e.g. your child can flip, slide, and turn the shapes to different positions and in different degrees).

The more practice your child has with grade 6 motion geometry skills at home, the better his or her math skills will become.
