Multiplication and Division – Grade 6 Help with Multiplication and Division

By Stuart Ackerman  MSc.Ed.,B.A.

In grade 6 math, your child will be introduced to prime and composite numbers, multiples, and advanced division and multiplication skills.

     Your child will learn:

·         about factors, prime numbers, composite numbers, and multiples

·         to multiply by hundreds

·         to divide by 100, 1000, and 10 000

·         estimate products and quotients

·         about order of operations

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 6 multiplication and division skills such as:

·        factors, primes, composites, multiples

  •   products, quotients
  •   order of operations
  •   identify, calculate, estimate

How you can help your child at home:

  1. After learning about prime and composite numbers, have your child make a list and a rhyme to distinguish between the two.

The more practice your child has with grade 6 multiplication and division at home, the better his or her multiplication and division skills will become.
