Number Skills – Grade 6 Math Help with Number Skills

By Stuart Ackerman  MSc.Ed.,B.A.

In grade 6 math, your child will be introduced to reading, writing, comparing, and ordering large numbers.

     Your child will learn:

·         to work with greater numbers in real world situations

·         to read, compare, and round large numbers and large decimal numbers

·         about place value and number lines

·         read and write larger numbers

Your child should be familiar with the appropriate vocabulary related to grade 6 number skills such as:

·         million

·         billion

·         represent, compare, rename

How you can help your child at home:

  1. Search the newspaper or a magazine to find real life ‘larger numbers’ so that your child can see some real world examples.

The more practice your child has with grade 6 numbers skills at home, the better his or her number skills will become.
