Study Skills - How Do I Study For A Test?

TutorGiant.com

Being prepared for an exam or test is just as important as the process of studying.

There are several elements that must be in place in order to improve study skills.  For example, a student must attend class at all times because it would be difficult for a student to study if he or she has not had adequate instruction.   Secondly, students must review lessons on a daily basis in order to retain what has been learned.

These suggestions are useful but also somewhat obvious and repetitive.  The reality is that if all students were following these guidelines, they would all get an A+. Unfortunately, that’s not happening.  Students need to learn strategies on how to study more effectively and become better prepared.  It’s not just about sitting down to a desk; it’s also learning how to be resourceful.

Here are some ‘less obvious’ suggestions for students to improve upon their study habits and have a better chance on succeeding on a test or an exam.

*      Create a schedule for study time.  For example, allot 15-30 minutes each night to review lessons learned that day. Begin following this schedule as soon as you know about your test or exam.

*      Make note of the concepts that are problematic and take them to the teacher the next day for clarification.

*      Have some ‘study buddies’ (especially ones who are strong in the subject area that you need help with) whom you can call or e-mail at any time.

*      Search the internet for websites that are relevant to your studies.  Bookmark them if you need last minute help (obviously Tutorgiant is great for that!).

*      Create a practice exam or test for yourself.  This will enable you to understand the concepts and see how well you are prepared.  It is also a great strategy because quite often you will be surprised to find similar questions on the actual exam or test.

Being prepared for an exam or test is just as important as the process of studying. This cannot be said enough.  Make the effort to become organized and ‘aware’ of what you are learning and success will be that much closer.
