Spelling Activities for the ‘Active’ Learner TutorGiant.com As a teacher, I know that active learners face challenges regarding learning their spelling lists. ‘Active’ learners, quite often, do not take the time to sit down and relax with a book (they would rather play). You can help your child become a better speller by practicing spelling lists at home. It is important to remember that your child ‘may’ be a Bodily/Kinesthetic learner, which means that he learns best by ‘doing’. Take a look at the following ways you can teach your child spelling skills at home. Try them out to see which one work best for your ‘active’ child. · Have your child cut out letters from magazines and spell words from his school spelling list. · Your child can use clay or Play-Doh to spell words. · Take a cooking pan and fill it with sugar or salt. Quiz your child by asking him to spell words by using his finger to ‘draw’ the words in the sugar or salt. · Sidewalk chalk is a great tool to practice spelling words. Sidewalk chalk is colorful and your child will have tons of fun. You can also have your younger child (or older child who is young at heart) draw the pictures of his spelling words. · Your child can use pipe cleaners or string to create spelling words. · Use a program like Microsoft PowerPoint and let your child create his spelling words using different fonts, sizes, and colors. Any child would likely have fun learning spelling by using these methods. Older students can even practice grammar skills with these techniques. ©Tutorgiant.com |
