Math Skills - Help Improve My Child’s Division Skills TutorGiant.com Why does it seem that so many students have difficulty with division? One possible answer is that they don’t know their multiplication tables. Another reason why division poses so many problems is due to the fact that it is harder to conceptualize and the steps are difficult to remember. Before you plan to watch the division lessons here at Tutorgiant, you can help your child learn some basic concepts for division. 1. Have a copy of a multiplication table (up to 12 x 12) available at home. 2. Provide a list of ‘division’ words for your child such as: into, share, average, quotient, half, divisor, dividend, etc.. 3. Provide opportunities for your child to apply division facts in real life situations. For example, money, time, etc… 4. Have younger children divide blocks or toys (cubes, Lego, etc...) into groups. 5. Allow your child to use a calculator for half of his/her math problems each day. This will boost his/her confidence and help him/her learn division facts. 6. Review DMSB method for division (this video is on the Tutorgiant homepage and in the video library). Try to incorporate some of these methods at home and your child will gain confidence and improve math skills. Tutorgiant.com provides complete Division lessons with worksheets.
