Behaviour - My Child Doesn’t Bring Home Notes or Forms from School

TutorGiant.com

I bet that if a study were conducted, we would find out that about half of students actually bring home every form and note from school.

It is possible that this behavior is a combination of a lack of responsibility and a bit of forgetfulness.  Regardless of the cause, there are ways to help your child remember to bring notes home from school.

*      Establish rules at home for taking responsibility.  Discuss with your other child how to be more responsible at home and with school work.

*      Reward your child when he/she brings home any note.  Rewards can be a simple hug to extra computer time.

*      Make sure your child understands the relationship between not bringing notes home and the consequences. (I knew a parent who kept her child home from a field trip to the zoo because he didn’t bring home the form which was a common occurrence for him.  She believed that this was a natural consequence and a life lesson…Ironically, he started to bring home notes afterwards).

*      Don’t punish your child for not bringing home notes as this will only undermine his self esteem.  Work on praise and positive reinforcement instead.

*      Remind your child when he leaves the house that he should bring home any notes.

Try to follow these steps and be consistent both at home and with regards to your child’s agenda in order to become organized.
