Behaviour – My Child Gets Easily Frustrated and Upset TutorGiant.com We all perceive situations differently. Everyone is born with a different coping mechanism. Some students can solve their problems and express themselves with ease. Other students find it difficult think logically when they are emotional There are some ways that you can help your child control his/her emotions. · Tell your child that it is okay to take some time to him/her self. · Sit with your child and go over some problem solving strategies. That is, have your child identify the problem when it presents itself and develop coping strategies. · Teach your child behaviours that support self-control such as counting to ten, taking deep breaths, and looking the person in the eye. · Know your child’s ‘triggers’ and have him become aware of them. Suggest that your child remove himself from a situation should a ‘trigger’ be present. · Constantly reinforce the idea of stopping and ‘thinking’. When possible, just before your child loses self-control, remind him to ask himself/herself, ‘What is going on?”, “How do I feel?””What should I do?”. · Reinforce appropriate ‘reactions’. · Make sure that your child socializes with peers who will help your child develop socially. Also, support your child’s hobbies and interests. It is important to boost his/her self confidence.
